FAQs

Our FAQs will help you answer most questions about our booking process and tours. If there's anything we haven't covered, please contact us.

How do I book?
Use the booking form on our website to pay your deposit and confirm your tour place. We will send a booking confirmation immediately.

Can I extend my stay?
We can help you extend your stay at the tour hotel. If you’d like to stay at another hotel, you will need to make the booking directly. If you extend your break you will need to organise an alternative transfer to your departure point at the end of your holiday.

Are there any additional/hidden costs?
Breakfasts and dinners are included but you will need spending money for lunches, drinks,  and for the use of paid facilities, such as spas, at your hotel, unless they are specified as being included on your tour itinerary. We will provide transport for all tours and daily, timetabled transport for partners not taking part in tours – you will need to pay for any independent travel.

Do you provide flights/ferries/trains for travel to Europe?
As our customers come from across Europe, you are required to make your own travel arrangements. We will collect you from the meeting points specified in your tour itinerary.

Do I carry my own luggage?
We do not offer porterage on our tours so you will be responsible for your own luggage whilst in transit. We recommend sturdy suitcases with wheels.

Do I need travel/trip insurance if I sign up to a tour?
Yes, it is a condition you agree to when booking on any of our tours.

How am I protected financially?
All client payments are held in a secure Client Trust Account, offering full Financial protection.

Am I expected to tip?
Your tour guide will pay all tips at restaurants so you do not need to tip here unless you particularly want to. Our tour guides and do not expect to be tipped. If you would like to tip your driver please feel free to do so.

What activities do you provide for travelling companions who are not taking part in the tours?
We understand that you may have a travelling companion who does not share your love of history. They are welcomed on our holidays and we charge a lower rate that does not include access to our tours. We organise a free transfer to and from a local town or attraction each day and activities they can take part in most evenings. They are also welcome to use the facilities at their hotel, some of which may include extra costs, or can explore the local area independently and at their own pace.

What transport do you use?
We use modern, comfortable, spacious, air-conditioned coaches on all our tours. Their specification is dependent on group size. There will be WC facilities available on board, or we will make regular comfort stops.

What hotels you use?
We only work with high quality hotels that are well located for the regions we are exploring. These will usually be four-star or above and offer a wide range of facilities.

What are the food choices?
Breakfast is included in the cost of your holiday, with your choice of a cooked or continental breakfast. We will stop during the middle of the day so you can purchase a lunch. We will organise group meals each evening at the hotel or a local restaurant (and the cost of these is included) or you are welcome to make your own arrangements. Evening arrangements will be detailed at the start of your tour.

Who else takes part in your tours?
Our specialist tours are aimed at people with a love of history. There is no need to have a detailed knowledge of the subject before taking part in the tour, as our expert guide will tailor their presentation to the group’s level of knowledge. We focus on small groups and the tone is informal and inclusive with questions and discussions encouraged. We also organise evening meals where all the group, including non participating travel companions, are invited to take part and enjoy the pleasure of each other’s company.

When will I receive further information for you following my booking?
We will email immediate confirmation of your booking, and send a full itinerary and list of essentials for the tour four weeks before departure.

How fit do I need to be?
Our tours can involve walking across fields, along uneven ground, up hillsides and steps, so we recommend that you should be able to walk or stand for 60 minutes without taking a rest.
